Classic Literary
Author Biography
Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875 – 1950)
Edgar
was born in Chicago, Illinois and later graduated at the Michigan
Military Academy, however he failed the entrance exam for
West Point and was enlisted as a soldier with the 7th U.S.
Cavalary in Arizona, Fort Grant. He was discharged in 1897
following a problem with his heart.
With a wife, two kids and a lowly paid living,
he took up writing, and created, Tarzan of the Apes,
which went on to be a cultural icon. By the 1930’s he
had divorced his wife, remarried Florence Dearholt (a former
actress) and was publishing his own books.
