JANE AUSTEN Literary Classics Book CD. Author Biography Jane Austen (1775 – 1817) Jane Austen was born in Hampshire and was largely educated at the Reading Ladies Boarding School in Reading, Berkshire. In 1801 the Austen family moved to Bath, which is where a good number of her novels is set.
Following the death of Jane Austen’s father in 1805, Jane, her sister, brother Frank and mother relocated to Southampton and then onto Chawton a few years later. Jane Austen continued to write from Chawton, but began to suffer from ill health around 1816 and moved to Winchester for ease of access to medical treatment. Three years before this deterioration in health, she had published one of her most famous story’s – Pride and Predjudice, an innovative new genre in romantic comedies which she had started writing in the late 1700’s.
