Book CD. Author Biography
Jane Austen (1775 – 1817)
Jane
Austen was born in Hampshire and was largely educated
at the Reading Ladies Boarding School in Reading, Berkshire.
In 1801 the Austen family moved to Bath, which is where a
good number of her novels is set.
Following the death of Jane Austen’s
father in 1805, Jane, her sister, brother
Frank and mother relocated to Southampton and then onto Chawton
a few years later. Jane Austen continued
to write from Chawton, but began to suffer from ill health
around 1816 and moved to Winchester for ease of access to
medical treatment. Three years before this deterioration in
health, she had published one of her most famous story’s
– Pride and Predjudice, an innovative
new genre in romantic comedies which she had started writing
in the late 1700’s.
