JONATHAN SWIFT Literary Book Collection on CD. Author Biography Jonathan Swift (1667 – 1745) Jonathan Swift was born in Dublin to English immigrant parents, although his father was to die a few years before Swift was born. In 1682 he studied at Trinity College, and had to leave for England in 1688 when troubles stirred due to the Glorious Revolution.
In England Jonathan Swift worked for the English diplomat Sir William Temple, and was later introduced to William III. In 1694 he returned to Ireland to take Holy Orders, and was ordained as a priest the following year before returning to Sir William Temple’s country estate. One of his most famous works, Gulliver’s Travels, was begun in 1720, which was completed a few years later. Swift died on October 19, 1745.
