PLATO
Classic Literary
Book Author and Philosopher
Plato (427BC – 347BC)
The
date of Plato’s birth is without certainty,
and the information we have on Plato is from
third-hand accounts, as Plato never wrote
about himself. It is believed he was born in Athens to a noble
family, descendents of the King.
Plato was to become good
friends and a pupil of Socrates. Around 387BC, Plato
founded “The Academy” where he
taught pupils until his death.
Plato’s writings
take the form of epistles and dialogues, which attempt to
connect the state, soul and the universe, and others examine
mathematics, natural science, law and philosophy.
